KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 15 -- The Federal Land Consolidation and Rehabilitation Authority (FELCRA) Berhad needs to seriously implement the improvement recommendations put forward by the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) regarding the management of oil palm plantation procurement and comply with all statutory requirements. PAC chairman Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin said absolute compliance with the strengthened new procurement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) was very critical to ensure the sustainability of the company's investments. "It is also to avoid any risk of loss in the future and ensure the company's long-term financial stability," he said at a press conference in Parliament today. Mas Ermieyati said the PAC had presented the Parliamentary PAC Statement on the Follow-up Action by the Ministry/Agency on the Recommendations of the Parliamentary PAC Statement Regarding the Management of Oil Palm Plantation Acquisition by the Federal Land Consolidation and Reclamation Authority (FELCRA) under the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW), today. He said the statement was to inform the follow-up actions taken by KKDW and FELCRA Berhad on the nine recommendations submitted by PAC, following the issue of governance weaknesses in the procurement of four commercial oil palm plantations as reported in the Auditor General's Report (LKAN) 2/2025. Mas Ermieyati said that to reduce the company's financial burden, FELCRA decided to postpone any new commercial land bank acquisitions , and is now giving priority to the Estate Replanting Programme involving an allocation of RM52 million. Regarding the investment aspect, he explained that changing operating costs and the need for a large-scale replanting program had shifted the Return on Investment (ROI) point for Telupid Estate from the original target of the ninth year to the 19th year (2040). In this regard, he said PAC requested that future financial simulations be carried out by integrating break-even analysis. Meanwhile, he informed that FELCRA's new SOP now requires the external consultant's viability assessment report to be presented to the Board of Directors, in addition to setting a cooling-off period of 15 to 30 days to sign the agreement. "However, PAC emphasizes that compliance with this SOP is very critical given that its effectiveness has not yet been tested because no new commercial asset acquisitions have been implemented." KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 — The Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) has issued a stern warning against the unauthorized use of its name, logo, official identity, or images of police officers for promotional, marketing, advertising or other commercial purposes. In a media statement, Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said PDRM views seriously any attempt by individuals, companies or organisations to exploit the force's official identity without proper authorisation. He stressed that PDRM's official identity is an institutional asset that must be protected and should not be used to generate commercial gain or create misleading perceptions among the public. The police chief also clarified that the presence of PDRM personnel at any event should not be interpreted as an endorsement, approval or recognition of any product, service, investment or commercial activity. He advised the public not to assume that a product or service has received official support from PDRM solely because police officers participated in or attended a programme. Mohd Khalid warned that any party found using PDRM's official identity unlawfully or in a manner that misleads the public into believing the police endorse a particular product or service could face legal action under existing laws, including Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998 (Act 588), subject to the facts and evidence of each case. He reaffirmed PDRM's commitment to safeguarding the integrity, credibility and official identity of the police force while ensuring that all collaborations with external parties are conducted transparently, professionally and in accordance with the law to maintain public confidence in the institution.

TEMERLOH, July 15 -- Ten of the 351 commercial vehicle drivers screened by the Pahang Road Transport Department (JPJ) during its Integrated Anti-Drug Operation at 10 strategic locations across the state since July 1 have tested positive for drugs. Pahang JPJ director Syed Ahmad Khirulanwar Alyahya Syed Abdul Rahman said the operation, now into its 14th day, focused on drivers of commercial, public service and tourism vehicles. He added that it was carried out in collaboration with the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Land Public Transport Agency (APAD), the Computerised Vehicle Inspection Centres (PUSPAKOM), highway concessionaires and the Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture. “So far, the 10 drug positive cases detected involved heavy vehicle drivers aged between 29 and 55. “Action against them was taken according to the jurisdiction of AADK, while JPJ has suspended their Goods Driving Licences (GDLs) pending investigations before further action is taken under the relevant laws,” he told a media conference at the Temerloh Rest and Service (R&R) areas here yesterday. He said that of the 10 operation locations, five cases were detected at the Temerloh R&R, with two each at the Benta Enforcement Station (SPK) and Paloh Hinai SPK, as well as one at the Maran SPK. He added that most of the drug abuse cases among drivers involved were methamphetamine and the main factor in taking it was suspected to be to boost energy levels and maintain focus while driving. “These findings prove the need for continuous enforcement operations to ensure that only drivers who are actually qualified, possess integrity and are free from drug abuse are allowed to operate commercial vehicles on public roads,” he said. He said checks also revealed that one of the drivers who tested positive for drugs had a record of 42 JPJ summonses, all of which had been settled, while another had 11 summonses and several others had between one and nine summonses. He added that the records showed that some drivers are repeat offenders, which is a matter of concern for the authorities even though all the summonses have been settled. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 -- The government will not reduce any existing subsidies to the people despite being projected to bear almost RM40 billion in petroleum product subsidies this year due to the conflict in West Asia. Deputy Finance Minister Liew Chin Tong said the government's current stance is to continue various forms of assistance, including Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR) and Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA). He said the implementation of BUDI MADANI RON95 (BUDI95) since September last year had successfully protected the people from the effects of the increase in world oil prices when the crisis in West Asia peaked in March and April. "With the set price and the quota given, the people are not affected and are not influenced by what is happening in West Asia. "The people pay RM1.99 (per litre) even though in March and April the actual price reached RM5. These are two important contributions that have been introduced through BUDI95, namely fixed prices during the crisis and the government has ensured that the people have a supply of oil,” he said during an oral question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today. He was answering a supplementary question from Mohd Sany Hamzan (PH-Hulu Langat) on whether the government intends to reduce other subsidies, including food and STR, SARA assistance or school assistance following the projected large subsidy on petroleum products this year. Liew said the government has ensured stability in petrol prices and fuel supply despite facing global market uncertainties. “This, I think, is the uniqueness and also the advantage of BUDI95. KUALA LUMPUR, July 15 – The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a thunderstorm warning involving several areas in the northern region, with heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds expected until 3pm today. The affected areas include Perlis, Kedah, and parts of Perak, specifically Larut, Matang and Selama as well as Hulu Perak. The warning, issued at 12 noon on Wednesday (July 15, 2026), stated that thunderstorms accompanied by heavy rain and strong winds are expected to occur in the affected areas. MetMalaysia explained that a thunderstorm warning is issued when signs indicate that thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20 millimetres per hour are either occurring or expected to occur for more than an hour. The department also reminded the public that a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert and is valid for a period of not more than six hours from the time of issuance. IPOH, July 15 -- Police seized 75 bitcoin mining machines and 12 network devices during a special operation in Teluk Intan today, where the cryptocurrency mining activities were believed to have been powered by illegally connected electricity yesterday. Hilir Perak district police chief ACP Chua Kok Lian said the operation, conducted in collaboration with Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB), successfully uncovered the illegal cryptocurrency mining activities. "Further investigations are underway to identify those involved, while TNB's preliminary inspection found elements of electricity theft at the premises inspected," he said in a statement tonight. According to him, the case is being investigated under Section 427 of the Penal Code and Section 37(1) of the Electricity Supply Act 1990. He said police viewed cryptocurrency mining activities involving illegal electricity connections seriously as they not only violated the law but also caused substantial losses to the utility provider and increased the risk of fires that could threaten lives and property. "The public is advised not to engage in electricity theft or allow their premises to be used for unlawful activities. Property owners are also advised to verify the background of their tenants and monitor the use of their premises to prevent them from being misused," he said. -- BERNAMA
