KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has reaffirmed the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development's (KKDW) commitment to ensuring the effective implementation of rural development initiatives for the benefit of communities across the country. PUTRAJAYA, July 14 — Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh has described the Federal Court's decision to reject former Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan's application for leave to appeal as a long-awaited victory for justice after five years of legal proceedings. Speaking to reporters outside the Federal Court on Tuesday, Yeoh expressed gratitude to the judiciary and her legal team for their efforts in seeing the case through to its conclusion. She said the defamatory remarks had subjected her to years of personal attacks, including allegations targeting her religion and ethnicity, resulting in widespread misinformation and multiple police reports being lodged against her. "I would like to thank the Court of Appeal and the Federal Court for delivering justice. For the past five years, I have had to endure numerous defamatory accusations arising from statements made by the former Inspector-General of Police," she said. The Segambut Member of Parliament added that the case should serve as a reminder that issues involving race and religion must not be exploited for political or personal purposes. "Matters involving race, religion and ethnicity should never be manipulated. I hope today's decision serves as a lesson to those who continue to play the race and religion card. This must stop," she said. Meanwhile, Yeoh's lawyer, Datuk Razlan Hadri Zulkifli, said the court's ruling reaffirmed that the truth had prevailed, with the judiciary holding Musa accountable for the defamatory statements. Razlan stressed that while freedom of speech is a fundamental right, it must not be abused to spread falsehoods or make statements that threaten public harmony and national unity. People have the right to free speech, but they do not have the right to defame others or make statements that could undermine social cohesion and public security," he said. The King graced the Presentation of Credentials Ceremony held at Istana Negara, where six foreign representatives formally presented their credentials as heads of diplomatic missions in Malaysia. KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said Malaysia’s retail fuel prices remain lower compared with several major oil-producing countries, including Saudi Arabia and Qatar, despite global economic uncertainties. Anwar said the subsidised RON95 petrol price under the BUDI MADANI initiative is currently maintained at RM1.99 per litre, while petrol prices in Saudi Arabia have exceeded RM2.40 per litre. He said the comparison showed that the government remains committed to ensuring fuel remains affordable for Malaysians, while continuing to provide targeted assistance to the people. “Fuel prices in Malaysia are lower than those in Qatar and Saudi Arabia. That is a fact that must be remembered,” he said during the question-and-answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. Responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Rosol Wahid (PN-Hulu Terengganu) on fuel prices during the previous administration and his earlier pledge, while in the opposition, to reduce petrol prices, Anwar said fuel costs must be viewed based on the current economic environment. He pointed out that when there were calls previously to reduce petrol prices to RM1.50 per litre, Saudi Arabia’s fuel price at that time was around 50 sen per litre. However, current prices in Saudi Arabia, Qatar and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) are now higher compared with Malaysia. Anwar said the UAE, despite being a major oil-producing nation, had also increased fuel prices recently due to changing global market conditions. The Prime Minister stressed that fuel prices should not be assessed in isolation, as the government’s overall support measures include various forms of assistance such as the Sumbangan Tunai Rahmah (STR), Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA), RON95 fuel subsidies and the BUDI Diesel programme. “Overall, the assistance provided is much greater than before. However, I do not want to compare because circumstances differ and the country’s revenue situation was also different,” he said. Anwar added that the government remains open to constructive suggestions on improving fuel-related policies, while ensuring economic stability and protecting the welfare of the people. Earlier, Rosol had asked the government to explain its assessment of the impact of the prolonged crisis in the Strait of Hormuz and measures taken to reduce its effects on Malaysia. In response, Anwar said the government is focusing on ensuring adequate fuel supplies, controlling the prices of essential goods, supporting micro, small and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and strengthening the country’s economic resilience. He said allocations for STR and SARA had been increased to RM15 billion this year, benefiting more than nine million recipients nationwide. JOHOR BAHRU, July 14 — Johor Menteri Besar Datuk Onn Hafiz Ghazi has directed relevant federal and state authorities to conduct a comprehensive investigation into the operations of Network School in Forest City following public concerns over allegations that Israeli nationals participated in its programmes using second-country passports. In a media statement on Tuesday, Onn Hafiz said the Johor Government takes the matter seriously and will not allow any individual or organisation to use the state as a platform to promote ideologies or activities that conflict with Malaysian laws, national sovereignty, or Johor's interests. "The Johor Government will not permit any party to turn this state into a base for activities that are contrary to the law, sovereignty and the interests of Johor and Malaysia," he stressed. The Menteri Besar said the state government has requested the Home Ministry, the Immigration Department, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Royal Malaysian Customs Department (JKDM), and other relevant security agencies to carry out a detailed investigation. The probe will focus on verifying the identity and nationality of individuals involved, examining the use of second-country passports, reviewing travel documents and immigration passes, determining the purpose of their entry into Malaysia, and assessing whether their actual activities align with the declared reasons for entering the country. Onn Hafiz added that the Higher Education Ministry, the Digital Ministry, and relevant regulatory bodies have also been asked to determine the legal status of Network School's operations and whether its programmes require registration or approval under Malaysian law. At the state level, the Iskandar Puteri City Council (MBIP), the Johor Land and Mines Office (PTG), and other relevant agencies will review compliance with licensing requirements, building usage regulations, land conditions, accommodation arrangements, business activities, and other applicable legal provisions. He said that if investigations uncover any violations of the law, misuse of immigration passes, breaches of licensing or land conditions, or any elements that could threaten Johor's interests and national security, the state government urged the authorities to take firm action without compromise.
