DUNGUN: An elderly female trader faced a moment of anxiety when her retail shop in Ketengah Jaya, here, was robbed by three armed men in an incident at 1.45 pm yesterday. Dungun District Police Chief, Superintendent Nik Ab Halim Nik Mat said the 70-year-old victim was doing business alone at the time, before being approached by three men armed with a machete and an iron bar. He said the suspect is believed to have tied the victim's hands and covered his mouth with adhesive tape, before taking several of the victim's valuables. "Among the items stolen were jewellery worn by the victim, cash, two mobile phones and personal documents, with an estimated loss of tens of thousands of ringgit." "However, the victim did not suffer any injuries in the incident," he said in a statement today. Nik Ab Halim said the police are now actively tracking down the three suspects who are believed to have fled in a grey Proton Iswara car. He said the case is being investigated under Section 395/397 of the Penal Code, for committing armed robbery. "The public with information regarding the incident is asked to contact the Dungun District Police Headquarters or the nearest police station to assist in the investigation," he said. -- BERNAMA

ALOR GAJAH, JULY 11 -- Two areas in Alor Gajah here were flooded following heavy rain that continued for more than six hours since 6am this morning. Melaka APM director Lt Col (PA) Kamarulsyah Muslim said that as of 12.30 pm today, the areas affected by the flood were Taman Ria Masjid Tanah and Jalan Bandar Baru Masjid Tanah, but the number of residents or houses affected had not yet been obtained. "The area in question was flooded following continuous heavy rain causing the water level in rivers or ditches to overflow. "However, so far no temporary evacuation centres have been opened and continuous monitoring in the affected areas is being carried out by APM members and related agencies," he said in a statement here today. Continuous heavy rain was also reported in Central Melaka and Jasin, but so far no areas have been reported flooded. -- BERNAMA

Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the complaints involved various forms of online content reported during the election campaign period. She said 17 complaints were related to the spread of false information, while 11 complaints involved hate speech and one complaint concerned a fake account and impersonation activities. Teo said the government remains committed to ensuring a safe and responsible digital environment, particularly during election periods where the spread of misinformation and harmful content can affect public confidence and social harmony. She reminded the public to verify information from reliable sources before sharing any content online and urged social media users to avoid spreading unverified claims that could create confusion or tensions among communities. The MCMC, she added, will continue monitoring online platforms and take appropriate action against content that violates existing laws and regulations. KUALA LUMPUR, July 11 — Malaysia's Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) is stepping up efforts to combat the distribution and abuse of vapes containing prohibited substances through integrated enforcement operations involving multiple government agencies. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the government remains committed to dismantling syndicates involved in the distribution of illicit vape products, particularly those targeting young people. "The government will not compromise with any syndicate distributing vapes mixed with prohibited substances. KDN will continue to strengthen integrated enforcement to safeguard public safety and protect the future of the younger generation," he said. According to the ministry, enforcement actions carried out between 2023 and June 2026 resulted in the seizure of 718.43 kilograms of vape products or electronic cigarettes suspected of containing prohibited substances. During the same period, authorities arrested 585 individuals and recorded 400 cases involving the distribution of vapes laced with illicit substances, including synthetic drugs, tetrahydrocannabinol (THC), mushroom extracts, and other psychoactive substances. The integrated operations involved several enforcement and regulatory agencies, including the Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), the Ministry of Health (MOH), the National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK), local authorities, the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia (JBPM), the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN), and Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB). The Home Ministry said it will continue to intensify special enforcement operations, strengthen intelligence gathering and cyber surveillance, enhance forensic analysis capabilities, and expand public advocacy and education programmes to comprehensively address the growing threat posed by vapes containing prohibited substances.
