KUALA LUMPUR, 7 July — The Ministry of Home Affairs (KDN) has strengthened its Smart Enforcement approach through integrated operations involving the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) and Immigration Department of Malaysia (JIM) to combat smuggling, cross-border crimes and activities that threaten national security and supply chain stability. Home Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said strategic cooperation between enforcement agencies would continue to be enhanced to ensure national security remains protected, smuggling activities are tackled comprehensively, and the people's welfare remains a top priority. From 12 April to 4 July 2026, integrated enforcement operations recorded significant achievements, including: RM135.66 million worth of total seizures 1,330 arrests involving various offences 453 cases recorded through cross-agency enforcement actions KDN said the achievements reflect its continuous commitment to strengthening border control, protecting the country's supply chains and ensuring enforcement measures are carried out professionally, in an integrated manner and effectively. The ministry added that coordinated efforts among enforcement agencies will continue to safeguard national security and ensure the well-being of the people. -- MINUTESMY

KUALA LUMPUR, 7 July — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim said all initiatives undertaken for the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) community were driven by the government's commitment to listen to the concerns of settlers and provide solutions that bring real benefits to the people. KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 — UMNO President Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has expressed his deep sorrow over the passing of Datuk Jailani Harun, who previously served as his Media Officer at the Office of the UMNO President. In a social media post, Ahmad Zahid said he received the heartbreaking news after visiting Allahyarham at Serdang Hospital earlier in the morning. He said it was painful to see Allahyarham's condition during the visit, and although he had hoped for a miracle, he accepted that Allah SWT loved him more. PUTRAJAYA, July 7 -- The government is conducting a special study to develop a more comprehensive protection mechanism for cybercrime victims, said Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Law and Institutional Reform) Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. She said the study by the Legal Affairs Division (BHEUU) would examine measures to assist online scam victims in recovering lost funds, as well as the possibility of introducing stricter penalties for offenders. BHEUU would also review best practices from other countries in protecting victims’ rights and assess their suitability for implementation in Malaysia, she said. “BHEUU is conducting an in-depth study on issues involving victims, including cybercrime, online harms and digital offences. “Some countries have different approaches, such as Singapore, where offenders can face caning as part of their punishment. In Malaysia, the penalties currently involve fines and imprisonment, so this is something we will study,” she told a press conference after attending the National Cyber Security Summit (NCSS) 2026 here today. Azalina said Malaysia’s existing legal framework focuses mainly on prosecuting offenders under laws such as the Penal Code and Criminal Procedure Code, while protection for victims requires further review. “We want to study what other countries have in place, including the types of penalties and measures to support victims. “Currently, victims often have limited options apart from making a report. In some cases, they do not recover their lost money,” she said. She said mechanisms adopted in countries such as the United Kingdom and Australia, where online scam victims may receive refunds under certain circumstances, would be among the areas examined. “In the UK and Australia, when a person becomes a victim of an online scam, the banks involved refund the victim’s money. “In Malaysia, Bank Negara has yet to decide on such a mechanism, but it is being considered as part of the study,” she said, adding that the timeline for completing the study had yet to be determined. -- BERNAMA

MARAN, July 7 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is scheduled to officiate the Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) Settlers’ Day and 70th anniversary celebration at Stadium Tun Abdul Razak, Jengka here today. Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, is expected to deliver his address at 2.30 pm in recognition of the contributions and sacrifices of FELDA settlers, who have played a key role in the organisation’s development over the past seven decades since its establishment in 1956. The event will also be attended by Deputy Prime Minister and Rural and Regional Development Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, and Pahang Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Wan Rosdy Wan Ismail. KUALA LANGAT, July 7 -- The suspect in the stabbing of a Form Three girl at a school in Banting has been remanded for four days. Magistrate Maslinda Selamat at the Telok Datok Magistrate’s Court today granted a remand order keeping the 15-year-old suspect in custody until May 10. Kuala Langat district police chief Supt Mohd Akmalrizal Radzi confirmed the matter via WhatsApp. National Legal Aid Foundation (YBGK) lawyer S. Vijeswari Devi, representing the suspect, also confirmed that her client is a person with autism. The suspect arrived at the court in a police vehicle at approximately 8 am and left at around 9 am. In a statement yesterday, the Selangor State Education Department said police had arrested a suspect believed to be involved in the stabbing of a female student at a school in Banting. It also said the injured student was being treated at Banting Hospital. The victim’s father told reporters that his daughter had suffered lung injuries and 16 stab wounds. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 -- A man was killed in a hit-and-run incident while removing a warning marker placed behind his vehicle after changing a flat tyre at KM13 of the Cheras-Kajang Highway last night. Kajang district police chief ACP Naazron Abdul Yusof said that in the 10 pm incident, the 46-year-old man, who was driving a silver Toyota Innova with five passengers, had stopped on the road shoulder to change a flat tyre. "After changing the tyre, the victim walked to the rear of his vehicle to remove a bucket that had been placed as a warning marker for other road users when a red Toyota Innova struck him. "The driver of the red Toyota Innova then fled the scene without stopping," he said in a statement today. Naazron said the driver of the silver Toyota Innova was pronounced dead at the scene. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987. He urged anyone with information regarding the incident to contact Insp Nur Faezah Mohd Zakria at 012-3268496 to assist in the investigation. "Police advise all road users to drive prudently, always obey traffic regulations and exercise caution while driving," he said. -- BERNAMA
