IPOH, July 1  -- An autistic six-year-old boy reported missing yesterday evening was found dead in an oil palm plantation in Kampung Baru, near Sungai Sumun, Hutan Melintang, last night. Perak Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) Operations Division assistant director Sabarodzi Nor Ahmad said information on the missing child was received from the police at about 6.24 pm, after which a team from the Hutan Melintang Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene. He said the victim’s father discovered his son was missing after finding the boy was not in the house and the front door had been left open. “An initial searche conducted by the victim’s father around the house and in a nearby oil palm plantation failed to locate the victim. “A police report on the boy’s disappearance was lodged at 3.30 pm,” he said in a statement today. Sabarodzi said the victim was found in a ditch in the oil palm plantation area by members of the public at about 10.08 pm during the search and rescue operation. He said the victim's body was handed over to the police for further action and the operation concluded at about 11 pm. Meanwhile, the Bagan Datuk Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM) District Operations Control Centre said in a statement that the victim was found by villagers about 330 metres from his house and was confirmed dead by a forensic team. --BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Deputy Minister of Human Resources R. Ramanan today launched the Healthy and Safe Drivers Programme, a MADANI Government initiative implemented through the Social Security Organisation (PERKESO) in collaboration with the Ministry of Transport and the Road Transport Department (JPJ) to improve access to affordable and convenient health screenings for commercial vehicle drivers. The launch ceremony was also attended by Transport Minister Anthony Loke Siew Fook. Ramanan said that thousands of truck, bus and commercial vehicle drivers go to work every day not only to support their families but also to play a vital role in driving the nation's economy and ensuring essential goods and services reach the people. However, he said these drivers face significant health risks while on the road, and undetected health conditions could lead to tragedies that claim lives and shatter the future of their families. "Under this programme, beginning today, drivers will only need to pay RM30 for a health screening, while the remaining cost will be fully subsidised by the MADANI Government through PERKESO. "These health screenings are not meant to burden drivers but to detect health issues early so that treatment can be provided before they become a risk on the road," he said. Ramanan also called on more panel clinics nationwide to participate in the initiative to ensure drivers have easier access to health screening services. He said that more than 500 panel clinics have been registered across the country so far, but the government's target is to expand the network to 3,000 clinics, enabling drivers to undergo health checks conveniently without having to travel long distances. Ramanan stressed that drivers' health is a key factor in ensuring road safety and protecting the well-being of their families. "When drivers are healthy, journeys become safer. When journeys are safer, families have greater peace of mind," he said, adding that the Ministry of Human Resources remains committed to ensuring every worker not only has employment but also returns home safely to their loved ones. -- MINUTESMY

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim today presented appointment letters to the newly appointed members of the Special Committee on Corruption (JKMR) and the Advisory Board on Corruption Prevention (LPPR) in Parliament, following the consent of the Yang di-Pertuan Agong. Anwar said the appointments marked another step in strengthening Malaysia's governance framework and enhancing institutional oversight in the nation's fight against corruption. He stressed that both JKMR and LPPR serve as important check-and-balance mechanisms by providing independent and critical perspectives to improve the effectiveness of corruption prevention efforts. KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 9,151,849 recipients of the Rahmah Cash Contribution (STR) are eligible to receive benefits under the B40 National Protection Scheme (mySalam) based on the current eligibility criteria this year. Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan said that since the beginning of the implementation of mySalam in 2019 until 31 Dec 2025, a total of 1,880,069 people have received benefits with total claims paid amounting to RM1,423,893,319. "The fund balance of RM490.9 million as of 31 Dec 2025 shows that this scheme is still able to continue to benefit the target group." "Therefore, mySalam can be considered effective in easing the financial burden of the B40 group who are affected by health problems," he said during a question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today. He was answering a question from Datuk Awang Hashim (PN-Pendang) who wanted to know the level of effectiveness of the mySalam scheme in helping the B40 group obtain health protection, especially for critical illnesses and hospitalization costs. Amir Hamzah said the mySalam Scheme has proven to be effective in helping the B40 group obtain health protection, especially for critical illnesses and hospitalisation costs, and the rate of use of the scheme has also shown an encouraging trend. He said nearly 300,000 people had received benefits with total claims of RM276 million last year, up from 190,725 recipients in 2024. "As of May 2026, an estimated 123,000 recipients have received benefits, involving payments of RM108 million. This performance shows that the mySalam scheme continues to be actively utilized by the target group," he said. Meanwhile, answering a supplementary question from Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) on whether the government would extend the scheme, Amir Hamzah said the matter was being looked into as the mySalam fund balance still stood at around RM290 million after usage as of the middle of this year. "We will look to extend the mySalam scheme for next year. PUTRAJAYA: The review of the Supplementary Electoral Register for May 2026 (DPT BLN5/2026) can be carried out for a period of 30 days from today until July 29, said Election Commission (EC) Secretary Datuk Khairul Shahril Idrus. He said DPT BLN5/2026 was certified yesterday and gazetted today, containing 40,139 names of citizens aged 18 and above in the period from May 1, 2026 to May 31, 2026 who were automatically registered as new voters. Apart from that, the DPT concerned contains 23,902 registered voters who changed constituencies and 3,400 voters who changed voter category or status. "The EC calls on citizens aged 18 and above between May 1 and May 31, 2026 and any registered voters who have applied for a change of constituency or change of voter category or status to check their names in DPT BLN5/2026," he said in a statement today. He said checks can be made via the EC portal via the link https://www.spr.gov.my or https://mysprsemak.spr.gov.my, the official state election office portal http://ppn.spr.gov.my, the online application https://myspr.spr.gov.my, the MySPR Semak mobile application or the Voter Registration Check line 03-8892 7218. Khairul Shahril said if they find their names are not listed in DPT BLN5/2026, they can make a claim by filling out Form C via the online application via the link https://myspr.spr.gov.my or attending the relevant State Election Office. Any registered voter in an electoral division who makes a check and wishes to object to the entry of the name of a voter who made a change to his or her electoral division can do so by filling out Form D via the online application https://myspr.spr.gov.my or attending the relevant State Election Office. PUTRAJAYA, June 30  -- The Ministry of Health (MOH) has temporarily suspended access to its official website to allow for enhanced cybersecurity measures to be implemented. In a statement today, the ministry said it is conducting investigations and remedial actions in collaboration with relevant agencies following a recent cyber threat incident, with further updates to be issued from time to time. “So far, there is no indication that the incident has affected critical systems or resulted in any breach of sensitive MOH data. “The ministry’s healthcare delivery systems continue to operate as normal and are protected by separate infrastructure with strict cybersecurity controls,” it said. MOH added that the website is used solely for corporate and public information dissemination and does not store patient medical records or individual health data. “The ministry remains committed to ensuring the security of its digital assets and the continuity of healthcare services for the public,” it said. On Saturday, media reports said the MOH official portal experienced access disruptions believed to be linked to a cybersecurity incident. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: The Finance Ministry has considered coordinating expenditure for the Ministry of Health (MOH) by only RM500 million compared to RM3.1 billion as claimed on social media, said Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan. He said the amount did not include major expenses such as emoluments, medical supplies, overtime allowances including on-call allowances , and so on. "The allocation for medicines has also been increased to RM6.5 billion for 2026." "For 2026, the Ministry of Health continues to target the recruitment of more than 18,000 health workers without any reduction compared to the previous year," he said during a question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat today. He was answering a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Hasni Mohammad (BN-Simpang Renggam) on how the Joint Committee's decision could make the RESET strategy and the Medical and Health Insurance Plan (MHIT) a success following the cuts in MOH allocations. He said the adjustment of operating expenses only involved non-critical expenses while all core expenses including basic services, security, health and education would continue as approved in the 2026 Budget. "This measure aims to create fiscal space to accommodate part of the sudden increase in subsidy spending due to the West Asian crisis," he said. He said the fiscal position was also important because the RESET agenda played a role in seeing how the government could control cost increases in the future. "The core initiatives we are implementing will also provide opportunities to control cost increases through transparency and new approaches such as the diagnosis-related group (DRG) system to ensure that we can control cost increases," he said. Regarding tax incentives for private hospital charity funds, he said the government had discussed with several private hospitals that had established their respective funds, and the funds would be used to cover the cost of treatment for the B40 group at the hospitals. Meanwhile, answering Hasni's original question on the latest status of the implementation of RESET and the MHIT Plan as well as the achievements of the Joint Ministerial Committee since its establishment in addressing medical inflation, Amir Hamzah said that to date, five important initiatives have been implemented. He said the initiative includes the publication of the basic MHIT White Paper in January 2026, the publication of the Cost Range of Common Medical Treatments in Private Hospitals and the publication of the World Bank report on medical inflation in April 2026. In addition, it also includes the publication of tools to help consumers create transparency in assessing insurance needs, making claims and planning personal travel; and the provision of tax incentives for private hospital welfare funds to encourage charitable healthcare services. Amir Hamzah said the government is also actively carrying out the pilot phase of the Basic MHIT plan which will begin by the end of July 2026. "This pilot phase on a controlled scale involves several insurers and takaful operators as well as selected private hospitals in the Klang Valley to test the acceptance of the basic MHIT product and the readiness of its operating system." KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 — Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today chaired the sixth High-Level Committee Meeting on the Management of Refugees and Asylum Seekers (JTPPPS) to review and strengthen Malaysia's refugee management policies and mechanisms in line with national interests. Zahid said the meeting focused on ensuring that refugee management in Malaysia is implemented in a more systematic, coordinated and effective manner while balancing humanitarian responsibilities with the need to protect the country's security and sovereignty. He noted that the global refugee crisis continues to worsen, with more than 122 million people forcibly displaced due to conflicts, persecution and instability, making it essential for Malaysia to have clear policies and robust management mechanisms. "The current global refugee situation requires every country, including Malaysia, to adopt comprehensive policies that balance humanitarian considerations with national security and sovereignty," he said. Among the key matters discussed during the meeting was the refinement of the implementation of the Refugee Registration Document (DPP), which is expected to improve the management and monitoring of refugees and asylum seekers in the country. The committee also deliberated on the coordination of guidelines governing refugees' access to education and healthcare services to ensure implementation is more organised, legally compliant and effectively coordinated among all relevant government agencies. KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysians aged 18 and above can now apply for an International Malaysian Passport (PMA) with a validity period of either five years or up to 10 years according to their respective needs, starting tomorrow. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the choice of validity period provides more convenience for the people, especially those who frequently travel abroad for work, business, studies or to be with family. He said the fee for a passport with a validity period of 10 years was set at RM350, thus offering a saving of RM50 compared to the cost of renewing a five-year passport twice within the same period. "Hopefully this initiative will not only make things easier for the people, but will also further strengthen the position of the Malaysian passport as a travel document that is trusted and respected internationally," he said in a post on Facebook today. Saifuddin Nasution said the new PMA has been enhanced with 94 security features compared to only 49 in the previous version, through the use of various latest technologies such as holograms, ultraviolet (UV) printing, latent images and other protective elements to reduce the risk of forgery, modification and misuse of the country's travel documents. He said the new passport would be introduced in stages at 71 passport offices nationwide starting this July.
