KUALA LUMPUR, July 14 — Barisan Nasional's (BN) commanding victory in the 2026 Johor state election is more than just an electoral success—it represents a clear and decisive mandate from the people of Johor, according to political analyst Datuk Dr Noor Azizan Abdul Majid. He said BN's capture of 48 out of 56 state seats, representing 85.7 per cent of the Johor State Legislative Assembly, demonstrates overwhelming public confidence in the coalition's leadership and governance. "The result is not merely about winning the election. It is a strong endorsement from Johoreans for the state's current leadership and its development agenda," he said in his analysis following the election results. Datuk Dr Noor Azizan noted that BN not only formed the state government comfortably but also surpassed the two-thirds majority threshold by winning 10 seats more than the minimum required. He described the overall result as a comprehensive victory, highlighting that BN's 6:1 seat ratio over the opposition reflects its dominance across the state. "The figures show that for every one seat won by the opposition, BN secured six. This illustrates the breadth of support enjoyed by the coalition," he said. He also pointed to the large winning margins recorded in several key constituencies. Four seats—Permas, Tiram, Kota Iskandar and Larkin—registered majorities exceeding 20,000 votes, while Permas and Tiram each recorded victories of more than 25,000 votes, making them among the most dominant wins in the election. In addition, 14 BN candidates secured majorities of over 15,000 votes, indicating that the coalition's victories were not marginal but backed by substantial voter support. According to Datuk Dr Noor Azizan, one of the most significant takeaways from the election was the success of BN's "Go Solo" strategy, which had initially been questioned by many political observers. The coalition successfully capitalised on its established brand, credible candidates and well-organised grassroots machinery," he said. "This demonstrates that support for BN was broad-based and not confined to any single voter segment," he explained. Datuk Dr Noor Azizan also said the election results serve as a vote of confidence in the leadership of the Johor Menteri Besar and the state administration, with voters opting for continuity, political stability and a proven governance record. KUALA LUMPUR, July 13 — Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said he intends to meet Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming following the latter's recent remarks about resigning from the Cabinet. Speaking to reporters after attending the Joint Mandate Ceremony for the TVET@KKDW contingent to WorldSkills Shanghai 2026 on Monday, Ahmad Zahid said Nga's statement was inappropriate for a member of the Unity Government. "I have no advice to give, but such statements should be appropriate because we meet every week at Cabinet meetings. If we were in the opposition, perhaps such remarks would be understandable. But when we are together in government, there is no need to raise such matters," he said. Despite the remarks, the UMNO president stressed that his relationship with Nga remained cordial. "It's okay. I will meet him. He is my friend," he added. Ahmad Zahid also dismissed speculation of cracks within the Unity Government, saying ministers and deputy ministers continued to work professionally in a conducive environment. "We move as a team in the Unity Government professionally," he said, adding that all component parties remain committed to staying together until the end of the government's term. He noted that while there may be public perceptions of disagreements within the coalition, the reality was that relations among government leaders remained strong. "The perception outside is one thing, but the reality is that we are in a very good situation," he said. JOHOR BAHRU: A total of 90 police reports were received throughout the state during the campaign period for the 16th Johor State Election (PRN), which ended at midnight last night. Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Mohd Khalid Ismail said the police report received did not involve any candidate or top party leader. He said that from the total reports received, 25 investigation papers had been opened to enable further action to be taken in accordance with legal provisions. "Most of the reported cases involve acts of treachery, including acts of damaging, removing and burning the flags of the political parties that are contesting. "So far (all investigation papers) are still in the process of finding those involved," he told reporters after visiting the Taman Molek National Secondary School (SMK) Voting Centre, here today. Also present to monitor the voting process were the Director of the Department of Internal Security and Public Order (JKDNKA) Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Johor Police Chief Datuk Ab Rahaman Arsad. Regarding the conduct of today's voting process, he said that so far the democratic process, which involved 2.7 million registered voters, had gone well and smoothly, without any untoward incidents. To ensure that public safety and order are always maintained, he said 14,000 police officers and personnel have been deployed to all 56 State Legislative Assembly (DUN) constituencies throughout Johor. "This amount includes manpower assistance from several contingents throughout the country, totaling 5,600 officers and personnel," he said. He also advised voters who want to make any complaints or dissatisfaction to come forward and report to the police to enable early action to be taken by the Election Commission (EC) or related agencies. Dressed in a white baju Melayu and songkok, the incumbent Machap state seat holder was among the earliest to arrive at the polling centre at 8.05 am. Before entering Stream 4 to cast his ballot, Onn Hafiz, who is also Johor Barisan Nasional (BN) chairman, took time to mingle with and greet other voters waiting for their turn. Seeking a second term, Onn Hafiz faces a straight fight against Nur Hafiz Roslan of Pakatan Harapan (PH). Speaking to reporters after voting, Onn Hafiz urged the public to turn out early to fulfil their democratic responsibility and help ensure the smooth conduct of the polling process.
