JOHOR BAHRU, June 18 -- Pakatan Harapan (PH) is expected to announce the list of candidates contesting in the Johor state election this Monday, said Johor PKR chairman Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa. Zaliha, who is also PKR vice president, said the announcement was expected to be made at a ceremony involving the party's top leadership, including PH chairman Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim. "The announcement of candidates has been agreed upon by the state and central PH. TANJUNG MALIM, JUNE 16 -- The establishment of a new political party in the country will not affect the chances of Barisan Nasional (BN) in the upcoming Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. BN Secretary-General Datuk Seri Zambry Abd Kadir said his party had made thorough preparations to face the two state elections by focusing fully on work in the areas that will be contested. He said that in a democratic system, every party has the right to establish a new political party, but BN remains consistent with the strategy and level of preparedness that has been planned. "UMNO and Johor BN have made thorough preparations. I am confident that the establishment of the new party will not affect BN based on the focus given to the work that has been arranged," he said. He said this to reporters when asked whether the existence of the National Vision Party and the United Malaysia Party (BERSAMA) could threaten BN's position in the Johor and Negeri Sembilan state elections. JOHOR BAHRU, June 16 -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday called on the people of Johor to remain steadfast in supporting what he described as the "politics of hope" and a reform agenda aimed at strengthening accountability, justice and good governance in Malaysia. Speaking at a gathering in Johor, Anwar stressed that the nation's political struggle has never been solely about winning elections, but rather about determining the direction Malaysia takes in the years ahead. "Our struggle has never been just about winning elections. It is about deciding whether Malaysia continues to be driven by old politics filled with hatred and abuse of power, or moves forward based on the principles of accountability, justice and respect for the people," he said. The Prime Minister said the Unity Government has demonstrated that its reform commitments are more than mere slogans, citing improvements in governance, efforts to combat corruption, increased investments and the restoration of international confidence in Malaysia. "We have proven that what we promised is not merely rhetoric. JOHOR BAHRU: Parti Amanah Negara (Amanah) intends to reclaim several State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats it previously won, including Parit Yaani and Kota Iskandar, in the Johor State Election (PRN). Johor Amanah chairman Aminolhuda Hassan said the state seat was among the 19 seats that Amanah would contest, apart from Simpang Jeram, which was the only seat won by the party in the 2022 general election. "Amanah will also field candidates in Permas, Kemelah, Tenang, Serom, Maharani and Bukit Pasir," he told Bernama. Aminolhuda, who won the Parit Yaani state seat on a PAS ticket in 2013 and PH-Amanah in 2018, said that although several areas were known to be Barisan Nasional (BN) strongholds, Amanah was determined to give a tough competition in this election. He said the party also had confidence in the opportunities in suburban areas. Meanwhile, he, who is also the Johor PH chairman, said the coalition had decided to hand over the Endau, Pulai Sebatang and Senggarang state seats to be contested by PKR. Regarding the Puteri Wangsa and Larkin state seats which are linked to negotiations among PH component parties, Aminolhuda said that so far there has been no final decision on the distribution of the two seats. NILAI, June 15 — The Malaysian Indian People’s Party (MIPP) has postponed any decision regarding its future political alignment until after the upcoming Perikatan Nasional (PN) Supreme Council meeting, while intensifying preparations for the forthcoming state elections in Johor and Negeri Sembilan. The decision was among the key resolutions adopted during MIPP’s Central Committee meeting held at the Nilai Springs Resort Hotel on Sunday, according to party Secretary-General Sathes Kumar Nilameham. In a statement issued after the meeting, MIPP said its leadership had undertaken a comprehensive assessment of the current political landscape, including recent engagements and discussions with several political parties amid evolving political developments. “The Central Committee has resolved that any decision concerning the party’s future political direction will only be made after the Perikatan Nasional Supreme Council convenes its meeting, which is expected to take place in the near future,” the statement said. The committee also granted full authority to MIPP President to continue discussions, consultations and negotiations with relevant political stakeholders in the best interests of both the party and the Indian community.
