KUALA LUMPUR, 3 APRIL -- Minister of Communications, YB Datuk Ahmad Fahmi Fadzil yesterday officiated the Computer Contribution Programme at the Brickfields District Police Headquarters, aimed at enhancing digital capabilities within the police force. Held at the Brickfields IPD lobby, the ceremony was attended by Brickfields District Police Chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook, alongside division heads, station police chiefs, and representatives from the Kuala Lumpur contingent as well as the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission. In his speech, YB Datuk Ahmad Fahmi highlighted that the contributed computers are intended to support the logistical needs of the police, particularly in strengthening their digital infrastructure and improving operational efficiency. “This initiative reflects the government’s commitment to advancing digitalisation within the Royal Malaysia Police, while enhancing the quality and efficiency of services delivered to the community,” he said. PUTRAJAYA, 3 APRIL -- Deputy Prime Minister Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has stressed that the government will take firm action against any parties attempting to exploit the current global uncertainty by unreasonably increasing prices of goods. Speaking after chairing the 17th Executive Committee Meeting of the National Livelihood Action Council (NACCOL), Zahid said the world is currently facing heightened instability, with the conflict in West Asia beginning to disrupt the global energy supply chain and impact daily life. He emphasized that the government’s primary focus remains on protecting citizens from the growing economic pressures. “The interest of the people will always be our priority. We will not compromise with any party that takes advantage of the situation,” he said, adding that strict enforcement measures will be implemented against offenders. As part of immediate actions, Datuk Seri Dr. Ahmad Zahid announced that NACCOL will convene regularly during this critical period to ensure that emerging issues are addressed swiftly and effectively. He also highlighted the government’s significant financial commitment for 2026, with RM54.7 billion allocated for social assistance, subsidies, and income enhancement initiatives. Currently, more than 13.7 million Malaysians benefit from various programmes, including STR, SARA, and the Rahmah Sales Programme. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim has warned that the global energy crisis is worsening and recovery is expected to take considerable time, stressing that the current situation is “no longer business as usual.” Speaking in a special briefing yesterday, Anwar said that while Malaysia remains resilient, the nation is not immune to the broader global challenges affecting energy supply and prices. “The reality is that the situation we are facing today is extraordinary and requires careful management,” he said. The Prime Minister highlighted that the government had acted early through the People’s Support Initiative, with spending exceeding RM4 billion to cushion the impact on citizens. Among the key measures are maintaining the price of RON95 petrol at RM1.99 per litre and continuing diesel subsidies for eligible groups. In addition, the government is implementing further steps to ensure energy security and manage fuel consumption. This includes the introduction of Work From Home (BDR) arrangements for the public sector beginning April 15. Anwar called on Malaysians to face the challenging period with wisdom, discipline, and a strong sense of collective responsibility. “In these difficult times, unity and resilience are crucial. KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 16 -- Police have arrested another individual to assist in investigations into the murder of a man at a hotel in Sunway Mentari, Petaling Jaya on July 8. Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the man, in his 40s, was arrested last Monday and remanded for four days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation. He said the remand period of two men in their 20s and 30s who were previously detained expired today, and would be extended to assist with investigations. "The investigation papers regarding this case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor this week," he said in a statement today. Previously, the media reported that a man in his 30s was found unconscious in a hotel before being reported dead at 11.23pm. Initial examination found signs of injury on the victim's body, and the results of the autopsy at the University Malaya Medical Centre (PPUM) confirmed the cause of death was severe injuries due to the impact of a blunt object. -- BERNAMA
