Previously, police reportedly arrested a man to assist in the investigation into an accident involving a car and two motorcycles, believed to have been caused by failure to obey a red traffic light. Police investigations found that the two motorcycles were crossing the intersection with a green traffic light, but a car coming from the right is believed to have failed to obey the red traffic light and crashed into the motorcyclist. The two riders suffered serious injuries and were sent to the Kuala Lumpur Hospital. The 24-year-old victim suffered a broken left leg, while the other suffered a broken arm and left leg.

Ramanan today announced the successful completion of the Watikah Submission Ceremony and Certificate of Appointment for members of the Gig Workers Tribunal (TPG) and the Gig Consultative Council (MPGiG), marking a significant milestone in the implementation of the Gig Workers Act 2025. The Act, which came into force on March 31, 2026, represents a major step forward in safeguarding the welfare of Malaysia’s estimated 1.64 million gig workers while ensuring fair treatment for platform provider entities. Ramanan emphasized that the appointments carry not only administrative duties but also a profound responsibility. “This is not merely a task, but a great mandate to ensure that every negotiation is conducted consistently, guided by the principles of comprehensive justice—protecting gig workers while maintaining fairness for platform providers,” he said. He noted that Malaysia is positioning itself as one of the earliest countries in Asia to introduce a dedicated legislative framework tailored to the rapidly evolving gig economy, reflecting the nation’s commitment to adapting to changing employment trends. The newly established Gig Workers Tribunal will serve as a platform for faster, collective, and equitable dispute resolution. Meanwhile, the Gig Consultative Council (MPGiG) will play a critical role in shaping policies, including proposals for minimum income rates and enhanced protection standards for gig workers. KUALA LUMPUR, April 3 -- The High Court here today fixed May 7 to decide on costs and hear Datuk Seri Najib Razak’s application for an interim stay of the USD1.3 billion payment to SRC International Sdn Bhd. The company’s counsel, Datuk Lim Chee Wee, confirmed that the date was set by deputy registrar Mohd Syafiq Mustaza during an e-review proceeding. The next month’s proceedings will also be conducted online, he added. On Tuesday, the High Court ruled that the former premier is liable for SRC’s USD1.3 billion losses after finding that he had breached his fiduciary duties, abused his position, and misappropriated the company’s funds for personal gain. Judge Datuk Ahmad Fairuz Zainol Abidin, in allowing the company’s USD1.18 billion lawsuit against Najib, ordered him to pay the amount, in addition to USD120 million that he had received from the company into his personal bank account, hence bringing the total to USD1.3 billion. The court, however, did not fix the costs and granted Najib an interim stay on repaying the US$1.3 billion. He must file a formal application for the interim stay within 14 days from the date of the decision. The judge held that Najib had abused his public office, allowing SRC to obtain a RM4 billion loan from the Retirement Fund Inc (KWAP) under a government guarantee, which was later sent offshore without proper checks, resulting in the loss of USD1.1 billion through fraudulent investments. SRC initiated the suit in May 2021, alleging that Najib had breached his fiduciary duties, abused power, and misappropriated company funds for personal gain. The company seeks, among other relief, a declaration of Najib's liability and compensation for USD1.18 billion in losses sustained from his alleged breach of fiduciary duties and trust. KUALA LUMPUR, JULY 16 -- Police have arrested another individual to assist in investigations into the murder of a man at a hotel in Sunway Mentari, Petaling Jaya on July 8. Petaling Jaya District Police Chief, ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the man, in his 40s, was arrested last Monday and remanded for four days until tomorrow to assist in the investigation. He said the remand period of two men in their 20s and 30s who were previously detained expired today, and would be extended to assist with investigations. "The investigation papers regarding this case will be referred to the Deputy Public Prosecutor this week," he said in a statement today. Previously, the media reported that a man in his 30s was found unconscious in a hotel before being reported dead at 11.23pm.
