KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a warning of thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds in Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya and 11 states this evening, which is expected to continue until 7pm. MetMalaysia announced that the warning involves Perlis, Kedah (Langkawi, Kubang Pasu, Kota Setar, Pokok Sena, Padang Terap, Yan, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu) and Penang (Southern Seberang Perai). The bad weather is also predicted in Perak (Kerian), Pahang (Raub, Bentong, Bera and Rompin), Selangor (Klang, Gombak, Petaling, Kuala Langat, Hulu Langat and Sepang), the whole of Negeri Sembilan, Melaka and Johor (Tangkak, Segamat, Muar and Mersing). In Sarawak, the areas expected to be affected are Samarahan, Betong, Sarikei, Sibu, Mukah, Kapit (Song), Bintulu (Tatau), Miri (Subis) and Limbang. In Sabah, the warning involves the Interior (Sipitang, Tenom and Nabawan), the West Coast (Ranau), Tawau (Tawau and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Telupid, Kinabatangan, Beluran and Sandakan). -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development (KUSKOP) is spending almost RM3 billion to implement various specific programmes to empower Bumiputera entrepreneurs from 2023 to 2025. Minister of Entrepreneur and Cooperative Development Steven Sim said the effectiveness of the spending was measured through several outcome indicators, including an increase in sales of at least 20 percent among participants and 150 companies successfully increasing their business size. "Regarding the government's return on investment , the ministry measures the effectiveness of empowerment programs and overall spending from various outcome indicators or tangible results for participants," he said. Steven said this when answering a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Dr Zaliha Mustafa (PH-Sekijang) regarding the allocation spent by KUSKOP for the Bumiputera empowerment programme and the return to the government measured through job creation during the question and answer session in the Dewan Rakyat today. According to him, for the first five months of this year, the ministry has approved financing worth RM5 billion which has benefited almost 180,000 entrepreneurs of various races and business categories nationwide. He said for the period 2025 to May 2026, specific programmes for Bumiputera entrepreneurs through agencies under KUSKOP have approved financing totaling RM1.407 billion to more than 53,000 Bumiputera entrepreneurs. "Of that total, 11,469 Bumiputera youth received benefits with an allocation of more than RM251 million," he said. Steven said the ministry also implemented elements of halal industry development through various programs through its agencies to help entrepreneurs obtain halal certification to expand the market. Regarding Datuk Mas Ermieyati Samsudin's (PN-Masjid Tanah) proposal regarding a national database system or single window mechanism for coordinating assistance to micro, small and medium enterprises (PMKS), Steven said KUSKOP had appointed SME Corp Malaysia as the coordinating agency. "SME Corp is being used as a one-stop centre to coordinate in terms of financing, grants, funds and other support systems. SME Corp also plays a role in facilitating the provision of information, channeling applicants and PMKS to the appropriate agencies," he said. Steven said KUSKOP was also implementing an initiative to develop a website or portal as a one-stop centre to list various types of support provided by more than 60 government agencies. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 11,677 deepfake content has been taken down out of 12,496 complaints regarding the misuse of artificial intelligence (AI) received by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) since 2024, the Dewan Rakyat was told today. Deputy Communications Minister Teo Nie Ching said the deepfake content was taken down after MCMC submitted an application to the social media platform provider. She said the number of complaints related to deepfake content increased more than eightfold during the period, with 917 complaints recorded in 2024, increasing to 3,612 in 2025 and 7,967 complaints as of June 15 this year. "To curb the misuse of AI, the government, through the Risk Mitigation Code (RMC) under the Online Safety Act 2025, requires licensed social media platform providers to implement risk mitigation measures, including against content generated using AI. "MCMC has consulted with the licensed platform provider to see how the platform provider is implementing these obligations," She said during a question and answer session at the Dewan Rakyat. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30 -- Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that the government has never prevented the implementation of programmes in Federal Land Development Authority (FELDA) areas, including by state governments, as long as it does not involve the use of Federal Government machinery for election campaigning purposes. The Prime Minister said the state government was free to organise programmes in FELDA areas, but the use of government machinery, including that of the agency, for campaign purposes was not permitted according to election regulations. "There is absolutely no obstacle for a menteri besar to enter a FELDA area and hold his own program. "The state government wants to go and give land grants, it's their business even though they know about the election rules. It's not a ban, but using FELDA machinery to campaign is not allowed," he said during the Minister's Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat today. In his explanation to a question from Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin (PN-Larut), Anwar stressed that he never issued an order to cancel the FELDA Settlers' Day Programme which was scheduled to be held in Kluang, Johor, on June 20 and 21. Commenting further, the Prime Minister said the MADANI Government continues to pay attention to the welfare of FELDA residents through various initiatives to restore the areas affected by previous management. He said that among the efforts implemented included the provision of dialysis centres in FELDA areas as well as the distribution of various development facilities through Federal Government agencies. "Previously, many FELDA areas did not receive the attention they deserved because they seemed to be marginalized from rural development projects. "That is why I, together with Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, decided to provide much better facilities than before," he said. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30  -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has reiterated that the announcement of new projects or policies during election campaigns is prohibited under election laws. He said the restriction is in line with Section 24B of the Election Offences Act 1954. “Our position remains unchanged. Once nomination day has been announced, campaigning may proceed, but there must be no announcement or promise of new projects or new policies for the state concerned. “Government machinery must not be used to announce new projects during the campaign period, whether by city councils, state governments or the Federal Government,” he said during the Minister’s Question Time in the Dewan Rakyat today. The Prime Minister said this in reply to Datuk Seri Dr Shahidan Kassim (PN-Arau), who wanted to know whether the prohibition on announcing government allocations or projects after nomination day remains in force and how compliance will be enforced ahead of the Johor, Melaka and Negeri Sembilan state elections. Anwar said, however, that announcing projects that had already been approved or allocated funding under a previous federal budget does not breach election regulations. On Shahidan's supplementary question about an allocation announced in Johor by the Housing and Local Government Minister, Anwar said the project had already been approved, and the ministry was merely reiterating an earlier decision. The same goes for the government’s announcement to reduce the price of subsidised diesel for Malaysians to RM2.10 per litre, the move which he said formed part of the planned implementation of the targeted fuel subsidy programme, covering both RON95 petrol and diesel. “That policy had already been announced. The targeted subsidy programme begins with RON95, followed by diesel. It is a nationwide policy, so I do not see any contradiction,” he said. To another supplementary question from Datuk Mohd Isam Mohd Isa (BN-Tampin) on the use of government assets and facilities during election campaigns, Anwar said existing guidelines remain in force. “The government decided on these guidelines long before I became prime minister. It would not be appropriate for any prime minister to travel without official security arrangements or government vehicles. “The decision was reaffirmed during the tenure of Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob. The same principle applies to chief ministers and menteri besar, but they must remember they are serving in a caretaker capacity. “A caretaker government cannot announce new policies or make policy decisions, particularly those with financial implications. If there are any breaches, I have been informed by the Election Commission that action will be taken,” he added. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, June 30  -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim stressed that almost all states received higher allocations from the federal government compared to their tax revenue contributions, except for Selangor and Penang,  which recorded higher revenue collection. He said the allocations were made based on development needs and the well-being of the people, thus rejecting claims that certain states were being ignored or marginalised. Anwar said the government determined the allocations based on the urgent needs in each state, including flood mitigation projects, upgrading the Pan Borneo highway and new roads, water drainage systems, poverty eradication and the development of schools and other infrastructure facilities. “If I want to compare, I want to emphasise here that it is the MADANI Government that provides the highest allocations for states such as Kedah, Terengganu and Kelantan, compared to the previous one,” he said during the Ministerial Question Time session at the Dewan Rakyat today. He was responding to a question from Datuk Seri Doris Sophia Brodi (GPS-Sri Aman) regarding allegations that the federal government's allocation to state governments is unfair and insufficient compared to the revenue collected, in addition to the efforts of the MADANI Government in improving the distribution of these allocations. Anwar said for the period 2023 to 2025, Selangor contributed RM43.6 billion in tax revenue to the federal government, while the federal expenditure in the state amounted to RM15 billion. For Penang, he said, the average revenue contributed to the federal government in the same period was RM10.7 billion, while the expenditure in the state amounted to RM7.9 billion. He said that for other states, the total federal expenditure was much higher than the tax revenue contributed. According to him, for the period 2023 to 2025, Kelantan recorded an average revenue of RM946 million with federal expenditure reaching RM8.9 billion, while Kedah recorded a revenue of RM3.7 billion with an expenditure of RM9.5 billion. For Terengganu, he said, the revenue received by the federal government, including petroleum revenue, was about RM2 billion, while the federal expenditure amounted to RM7.8 billion, and Johor recorded a revenue of about RM14 billion with a federal expenditure of RM16 billion. Meanwhile, in response to Doris Sophia's supplementary question on the special grant to Sarawak, Anwar said negotiations were still ongoing in line with the spirit of the Malaysia Agreement 1963 (MA63). He explained that the matter was not announced during his recent meetings with Sarawak Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg in Bintulu and Kuching, as the government had prioritised resolving issues related to the handover of Bintulu Port to the Sarawak government and the payment of RM1.8 billion by Sarawak to the federal government, a development he described as unprecedented. “I have given assurances that negotiations are continuing and that an increase should be granted based on the spirit of MA63. Therefore, this will be approved as soon as possible,” he said. At the same time, the prime minister described the handover of Bintulu Port to the Sarawak government as a milestone worth celebrating, noting that it marked the first time in history that a solution was achieved through negotiations recognising the state’s rights under the Constitution. “This is the first time in history that negotiations have fulfilled constitutional requirements in recognising the rights of states in matters concerning ports, and it symbolises the importance of conducting constructive and healthy negotiations,” he said. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, JUN 30 -- The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) denies allegations of issuing any applications or offers related to the procurement of work, supplies or services via social media applications. MetMalaysia, in a statement today, informed that it was taking the matter seriously after receiving complaints about irresponsible individuals posing as department officials to offer non-existent procurement deals.  "The department has never issued any such applications or offers via social media applications such as WhatsApp or Telegram, nor via email other than the department's official email," the statement said. MetMalaysia also filed a police report regarding the matter and advised members of the public who are victims or receive suspicious applications to immediately file a report with the authorities to assist in the investigation. All MetMalaysia procurement matters are officially carried out only through the eProcurement System in accordance with the government procurement procedures and regulations in force. "The public, companies and suppliers are advised to always be vigilant and to first check the validity of any offer or application associated with MetMalaysia," the statement said. -- BERNAMA
