KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 – Jalan Raja Chulan will be fully closed temporarily from midnight to 5.00am on Tuesday (July 7) to facilitate the installation of a pedestrian bridge. Authorities said the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the safety and smooth execution of the construction works. Motorists are advised to plan their journeys earlier and use alternative routes to avoid traffic congestion. PUTRAJAYA, July 7 – The Prime Minister’s Department (JPM) has clarified that the BMW vehicle recently used by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim is not his new official vehicle but an existing asset belonging to the International Ceremonies and Affairs Division (BIUPA). In a statement today, JPM said the vehicle is part of BIUPA’s existing fleet and is provided to meet the country’s official requirements, particularly for the transportation of Heads of State and Heads of Government at the presidential or prime ministerial level during official visits to Malaysia. According to the department, the vehicle complies with international protocol and security requirements, including advanced safety specifications designed to withstand high-calibre ballistic threats, explosions and modern security risks such as drone attacks. JPM explained that the BMW was assigned for the Prime Minister’s temporary use following advice and a security assessment by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM). The department added that the Prime Minister’s official vehicle, which was granted by the Yang di-Pertuan Agong, is currently undergoing maintenance. KUCHING, July 7 -- Sarawak’s state-owned airline AirBorneo Airways today opened ticket sales for its Kuala Lumpur route, marking a key milestone in its efforts to enhance air connectivity between the state and Peninsular Malaysia. In a statement, the airline said the new service will operate twice daily between Kuching International Airport and Kuala Lumpur International Airport Terminal 1. To mark the launch, AirBorneo is offering its “Sarawakku Sayang” fares from RM375 all-in for a one-way Economy Class ticket and RM736 all-in for a one-way Business Class ticket, inclusive of airport taxes and fuel surcharges. Bookings open today (July 7), with travel commencing on July 20. Tickets are available exclusively through the airline’s official website and AirBorneo mobile application. The airline said sales through its official booking channels would provide customers with verified fares, transparent pricing, secure transactions, direct customer support and real-time booking updates. KUALA LUMPUR, July 7 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday has stressed that Malaysia’s nation-building efforts must focus on producing citizens who possess integrity, strong moral values and a deep sense of patriotism to safeguard the country’s future. Chairing the National State Hall Board Meeting today, Anwar said the development of human capital with strong character was essential to elevating Malaysia’s dignity and ensuring long-term national progress. He emphasised the importance of instilling state values across society so that the spirit of patriotism continues to thrive among Malaysians, particularly among the younger generation. KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 554 individuals were arrested in 422 Op Soga XI raids nationwide in an operation to crack down on unlicensed gambling activities in conjunction with the 2026 FIFA World Cup. Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) director Datuk M. Kumar said all the suspects arrested were suspected of being involved in illegal betting and online gambling activities, consisting of 508 men and 46 women, with 341 of them being locals, while the other 213 were foreigners. He said the police also seized cash totaling RM167,062.09 and detected betting worth RM3.24 million during the operation. "During the period of this operation, a total of 422 raids were carried out in strategic collaboration with various interested agencies, especially the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC)," he said in a statement today. M. Kumar said the operation also focused on monitoring gambling promotion and advertising activities through websites and social media platforms. He said a total of 263 websites, platforms, applications and social media were detected to be used for football betting activities and gambling promotions. "Website blocking and content removal actions will be taken with the assistance of MCMC," he said. The case is being investigated under Section 6(1) of the Betting Act 1953 for betting at an open betting house or with a bookmaker; Section 6(3) of the same act for individuals acting as bookmakers as well as Section 4(1)(c) for caring for, managing or assisting in managing a betting place. M. Kumar said the offence of promoting or advertising gambling activities was being investigated under Section 4(1)(e) of the Betting Act 1953, while the detained foreign national was also being investigated under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for being in the country without a valid pass or permit. "Investigations are also being conducted in accordance with the Anti-Money Laundering, Anti-Terrorism Financing and Proceeds of Unlawful Activities Act 2001 (AMLATFPUAA)," he said. He said the Royal Malaysian Police would continue to intensify operations and enforcement actions, as well as strengthen strategic cooperation with relevant agencies, and asked the public to provide information to help the authorities combat this activity. PAHANG, JULY 6 -- Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi today announced the distribution of FELCRA Bhd's Interim Distributable Profit for Year 1, 2026, amounting to RM126.9 million. Ahmad Zahid said the profit distribution would benefit more than 72,000 participants nationwide. "This distribution will be channeled in stages to more than 72,000 participants throughout Malaysia, involving 747 projects that have recorded profits," he said in his opening speech in conjunction with the 2026 World Rural Development Day Celebration at the Tun Abdul Razak Stadium, Jengka Central Town, today. Meanwhile, FELCRA Berhad Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Ismi Abdul Majid said the first interim profit distribution this year increased 7.6 percent to RM126.9 million compared to RM117 million for the same period last year. He said it was hoped that the distribution would help improve the well-being of participants, especially in covering the educational expenses of children who were continuing their studies at higher education institutions. "FELCRA hopes that this profit distribution can help improve the well-being of participants. Many of the participants' children are now able to continue their studies at higher learning institutions, so with this profit they can use it for that purpose," he told reporters after the ceremony. Mohamed Ismi said the increase in production revenue and the decrease in operating costs compared to last year were among the main factors contributing to the increase in profit distribution. He said the average price of crude palm oil (CPO) for the period from January to April this year was recorded at RM4,367 per tonne compared to RM4,600 per tonne in the same period last year. "Despite the decline in MSM prices, profits still increased as operating costs were successfully reduced by 12 percent. In addition, the number of projects receiving profit distribution also increased to 747 projects compared to 684 projects last year," he said. He said Interim 1 distribution covers profits for the period January to April and payments will be made starting this month, while Interim 2 distribution, which covers the period May to August, is scheduled to be paid in November after the account closing process in September. -- BERNAMA

KUALA LUMPUR, July 6 -- The Dewan Rakyat today passed the Competition (Amendment) Bill 2026 with amendments at the committee stage. The bill was passed by a majority voice vote after Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Minister Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali tabled a minor amendment to Clause 22. He said the amendment was made to correct a typographical error in paragraph (f) relating to a reference to the subsection which has been renumbered. On Thursday, 18 MPs took part in the debate on the bill, which was subsequently passed at the policy stage. The Competition (Amendment) Bill 2026 seeks to strengthen enforcement against anti-competitive practices in response to the growing use of technology in cartel activities and the abuse of dominant market positions. The 34-clause bill also seeks to amend Section 24 by introducing a criminal offence for attempting to destroy, conceal, mutilate or alter records and data to obstruct investigations by the Malaysia Competition Commission (MyCC). -- BERNAMA
